My background is interdisciplinary, sometimes a-disciplinary. I have a PhD in American Studies, and I focus upon the nineteenth-century US for the most part. I've been working in the digital humanities and digital history since the late 1990s, starting as a project manager on the Walt Whitman Archive when I was a graduate student. Today I'm the director of the Digital Scholarship Lab at the University of Richmond. Most of our work focuses on visualization and public history.
